twinkle twinkle little zoo

Adina says there has to be a theme to every good birthday party, so she named Chloe’s first party “twinkle twinkle little zoo”…because there were elephants and giraffes and rhinos mixed with some gold spray paint and stars of course.

This was the first party we did at a park and I’ll have to say, I kind of prefer it.

I used a lot of gold spray paint, small mason jars, animals from the dollar bin at target and one cute garland executed by my husband.

Happy birthday sweet Chloe, we just love you to pieces.

Traditions.

20131206-082521.jpg

Growing up my family always did advent devotionals for the 4 weeks leading up to Jesus’ birth.
We would light a candle each week on this wreath my mom made, read the bible and sing together.
Sometimes my mom would have to bribe us with a piece of See’s candy (especially when we were punk teenagers and complained about everything) …but, I remember those nights in my mind like they were yesterday.
I made my own version of advent wreath and we got a new book to read as a family this year.

Last year at this time I was very pregnant with Chloe. The anticipation of waiting for our baby to arrive was so amazing because I imagined I felt a bit what Mary was feeling those days leading up to Jesus birth. Excited and nervous, full of joy but also nervous! But the sweet difference is really the whole world was waiting for Jesus to come. Someone to save us and give us true hope, love, joy and peace.
Anticipating The arrival of Jesus on Christmas is reminding me this season of the arrival of Him in my life and how my entire life has been changed and continues to change because of it.

We are using a new book this year called Counting the days, lighting the candles by Elyse Fitzpatrick, Jessica Thompson and Jami Nato.

DIY advent calendar

20131206-080650.jpg

I have always wanted to make an advent calendar and this year I finally did it.
Printed about a dozen photos from the year from instagram first.
Got some cardstock, and some cute tape from targets holiday section. Also needed was a needle + thread (I was too lazy to bust out the sewing machine), number stamps, bakers twine and clothespins.
I made pockets out of the picture or a piece of cardstock to put the goodies in.
I didn’t want to fill them all with just candy so some of them have verses written on them, a few have a trip to froyo after school (that one is for me), little things for the girls to do that are loving to each other or a neighbor/teacher, stickers etc.
So much fun to make and surprisingly easy.

On the hunt for Splendid Treasures.

20131115-202306.jpg

I absolutely love thrifting…and an excuse to thrift even more?! Love it.
My friend Jess and I opened an instagram store 11.9. We are pretty excited about it.
We want to not only post our finds, but things about us, our girls {{we each have three, so yes, we were destined to be friends}} and things we love about life and living in San Diego.
Photos are of real life thrifting with kiddos, Jess and I’s oldest daughters {{who are probably cooler than us}}, and a few posts from our instagram.
Folllow us to see what we find @splendidtreasure
Cheers!

I heart you, New York.

20131115-200903.jpg

I have wanted to visit New York for a real long time. When my brother moved there I thought I would be on the next flight out…but quite a few years later and I think 2 babies later I finally got to go {{mostly as a birthday present from my brother and his wife}}
I couldn’t have asked for a more dreamy time. Everything was how I pictured it and a million times better.
Of course having nights + days kid free to hang with my brother wasnt bad either.

Here are some of my favorite photos.

Sugar Rush!

20131114-204933.jpg

Adina wanted a birthday party themed from the movie Wreck it Ralph, so that’s what she got!

It basically came down to LOTS of sugar and 18 laughing, giggling girls.

I did the whole party for under 80$ which is a challenge when you have a million ideas.
Popcorn holders and little gold metals from the dollar store.
Candy boxes from begging a wholesale candy store called Candy Pros to look through their trash for me.
Gumballs, big lollipops, Oreos, licorice, hard candy in jars.
Cupcake piƱata from target.
Hot Glued candies to clips for the girls hair.
Crayons and coloring sheets.
Pin the bow on vanellope {{can’t take credit for the paintings, I borrowed them from a friend}}
Cupcakes for the girls to frost + sprinkle
“Hero” sugar cookies + Cake made by grandma {{of course}}

We love birthday parties around here, can you tell??

Foodie littles.

The children’s museum has a new look, it’s all about food and pretty awesome. I will definitely be taking the girls there more often. Adina had last Monday off so this is what she chose to do with us for the morning. Petting chickens, making paper, playing with a gigantic strawberry and making things with clay. Pretty great.
